Results of Wi-Fi 7 Access Point Testing

The Eltex WEP-550K enterprise Wi-Fi 7 access point has undergone independent testing by experts from K2Tech, an IT company and systems integrator. The tests evaluated the capabilities of the new wireless standard in real-world enterprise networking scenarios.

According to the experts, the most significant advantages of Wi-Fi 7 for enterprise networks include access to additional spectrum in the 6 GHz band, mandatory WPA3 security in this band, and Multi-Link Operation (MLO). The latter can increase actual throughput by transmitting data simultaneously over multiple radio links.

“During our testing of the Eltex WEP-550K, we recorded real-world throughput of up to 2 Gbps on a smartphone — an impressive result, although achievable only under ideal conditions. However, the real practical value of the new standard lies not in peak speeds, but in making wireless networks more efficient, predictable, and stable under heavy loads and in environments with significant interference. Our tests confirmed the benefits of MLO and the 6 GHz band. At the same time, as with any product based on a new standard, there are still areas for improvement, including centralized MLO management and greater flexibility in channel configuration. But these are matters of months rather than years. Even today, the WEP-550K demonstrates strong performance and supports all the key features of Wi-Fi 7.”

The WEP-550K was the first enterprise Wi-Fi 7 access point developed in Russia. It is Eltex’s flagship model, designed for high-density environments with demanding traffic requirements. The access point operates across the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands and supports 4×4 MU-MIMO, MLO, 4096-QAM modulation, and channel widths of up to 320 MHz.

Today, the Eltex Wi-Fi 7 portfolio includes three models, with the WEP-500K and WEP-50L joining the WEP-550K.

The tri-band WEP-500K is designed for open-plan offices, classrooms, hotels, conference halls, and other high-density environments.

The dual-band WEP-50L is intended for large-scale deployments in environments with standard network workloads, including individual offices, meeting rooms, small hotels, retail stores, and public institutions.

All three models can be deployed within a single network infrastructure, allowing organizations to select access points according to the traffic demands and coverage requirements of different areas.
