WLC-30 — the first hardware wireless access controller by ELTEX

24 March 2023 The WLC-30, the first hardware wireless access controller by ELTEX, is now in mass production. The WLC-30 is designed for centralized deployment of Wi-Fi networks for small- and medium-sized enterprises. The controller provides the necessary tools for rapid infrastructure start-up, set-up, management, monitoring and upgrade.

WLC-30 is in its development stage. With each new firmware update, new features and functions are added.

Interfaces
The WLC-30 is equipped with four 1 Gbps ports, two 10 Gbps optical uplink ports, a console port, USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, slots for SD card and hard disk installation.
The device can manage up to 150 access points and has a maximum of 4096 local WPA2 Enterprise users.

Security and authorization
The WLC-30 is a complex solution based on the ESR-30 service router hardware platform. In addition to the wireless routing and access control capabilities, an important feature of the device is a firewall to control data transmission between the internal and external network and block unwanted traffic.

Security features:

• Saving authorization data to a hard disk to comply with communications law*;
• Attack event logging to hard disk or server*;
• DoS/DDoS attack protection and alerting;
• IDS/IPS intrusion detection and prevention system**;
• Kaspersky SafeStream II – real-time threat detection for all types of traffic**;
• Firewall by trust zone, application and L2/L3/L4 fields;
• 1+1 redundancy through VRRP.

Authorization features:

• User authorization based on LDAP*, RADIUS;
• External RADIUS server support;
• User authentication by username/password and TLS certificates;
• WPA/WPA2 Personal and Enterprise.

Wireless network optimisation
A significant advantage of the WLC-30 is the Airtune system. It helps administrators to simplify access point configuration and optimize operation to achieve high network performance, especially in high subscriber density and complex radio environments. Features include radio parameter management, access point frequency and signal strength optimization, load balancing and seamless roaming.

Management
Configuration, management and monitoring of access points and controller is done via CLI, SNMP. A web-based interface will be available in future updates to greatly simplify management, facilitate the configuration process and allow administrators to carry out their tasks faster and more efficiently.
