A new type of Eltex equipment: the SCS-32 console server is available for order

A new type of Eltex equipment
The Eltex equipment catalog has been expanded to include a brand-new type of devices. The SCS-32 console server is now in mass production. It is designed to provide secure remote access to network equipment via console ports.
“Modern infrastructure can be distributed across multiple sites, and it’s not always possible to have an engineer on-site at every rack. We’ve developed a device that guarantees remote access to the equipment console regardless of whether the system is operating normally or in emergency mode.”
Roman Polukhin, Broadband Product Manager
SCS-32 can be used at various remote sites with network equipment, including telecom operators with distributed communication nodes, enterprises with branch office networks, industrial facilities, and government infrastructure sites.
The tasks it solves
A company’s infrastructure may include dozens or even hundreds of different types of equipment: servers, switches, routers, controllers, storage systems, UPSs, and so on. Most of these devices have a console port that provides direct control over the device. A console server makes it possible to connect to these devices and access the equipment over an IP network, without being tied to the physical location of the equipment.
The main tasks SCS-32 solves are the initial setup before commissioning and day-to-day administration. Engineers connect to the SCS-32 console server via a secure SSH channel over the Internet or within a local network and configure the equipment from their workstation, regardless of its location.
Capabilities
SCS-32 is equipped with 32 RS-232 (RJ-45) ports for connecting to target equipment and two 10G (SFP+) ports for connecting to the upstream network. The set of interfaces is complemented by two USB 3.0 ports, a console port for managing the server itself, and a dial-up port.
The console ports operate in DCE mode and are immediately compatible with the DTE ports of the target equipment: no rollover cables are needed for connection, only a standard RJ-45 cable.
Security is implemented on multiple levels:
- Remote access via SSH with support for IPv4 and IPv6;
- Authentication via RADIUS and TACACS+, allowing the SCS-32 to be integrated into an enterprise access control system;
- Access control lists (ACLs) for additional control over traffic;
- Static routing for connecting to upstream equipment at the Layer 3;
- Event logging via the Syslog protocol.
SCS-32 features a 1+1 power redundancy scheme with hot-swappable power supplies.
Support for Reverse SSH makes it possible to connect to a console server behind NAT or an enterprise firewall. The server establishes an outbound tunnel via which the administrator can access the device.
SCS-32 can send BREAK signals to each connected port to remotely restore access to equipment that stopped responding or lost its configuration.
