Monitoring the quality of VoIP calls: first release of VoIP Monitor

19 June 2026

Introduction

We recently announced  new Eltex VoIP products coming this year. One of them is VoIP Monitor, a new Eltex tool for monitoring quality of service (QoS) in telephone networks. The first release version 1.3.1 is now available for testing and ordering. Contact information is at the end of this article.

VoIP Monitor simplifies routine monitoring and quick diagnostics of VoIP call quality. The system analyzes SIP/RTP/RTCP traffic and visualizes signaling and media stream information for quick troubleshooting. Furthermore, it operates both in real time for active calls and retrospectively for completed ones, providing detailed data on recipients, time, and call quality parameters.

Anna Lopatina, Head of VoIP Sales: "The architecture of corporate telecommunications is becoming more complex with each passing year, the number of services and the requirements for them are constantly growing. Eltex keeps abreast of developments and offers not only network solutions but also tools for voice traffic monitoring. Now, problems can be prevented, and those that weren't prevented can be quickly localized and resolved."

VoIP Monitor operates within infrastructure based on Eltex solutions, such as ECSS-10, SMG, ESBC, as well as on products from other vendors.

Metrics

To objectively estimate call quality, the system calculates the high-level MOS (Mean Opinion Score) metric in accordance with ITU-T G.107 standard using a 5-point scale, as well as low-level RTP traffic indicators – jitter, packet loss, and latency.

All statistics are saved to the database, and CDR reports are available for downloading and exporting to .pcap format for in-depth analysis in third-party sniffers.

Web interface

The system management and data analysis are performed via web interface, which contains all information about calls, quality metrics, and network status. Current calls are displayed in the Active Calls section, where the parameters of each active call are monitored in real time.

For easy viewing, VoIP Monitor features a flexible traffic filtering system by IP address, port, and SIP header content, allowing to quickly find the call you need and resolve a specific issue without getting bogged down in data.

To ensure problems are never overlooked, VoIP Monitor features customizable alerts. The administrator sets thresholds for key metrics, such as MOS, jitter, packet loss, and SIP response codes, and the system automatically sends notifications when these indicators exceed acceptable limits.

Development plans

The VoIP Monitor release is just the beginning, and we will continue to improve the system's capabilities.

Our plans:

  • сall recordings in WAV format;
  • summary QoS reports with statistics on MOS, jitter and packet loss for a selected period (hour, day, week, month);
  • Live Sniffer mode to view the packets in real time and much more.

Stay tuned for updates on our website.
