New explosion-proof wireless access point WOP-3L-EX

How to ensure stable Wi-Fi coverage in hazardous areas? First of all, use equipment that can operate in extreme conditions. For facilities with aggressive environments, such as high humidity, dust, high temperatures and explosive atmospheres, we have developed the explosion-proof access point WOP-3L-EX. The device provides reliable wireless communication where it is critically needed: at enterprises in the oil and gas, chemical, mining and energy industries.

WOP-3L-EX is a step towards expanding the Eltex industrial access points line for industrial Wi-Fi. Previously, we introduced WOP-30LI, which supports Wi-Fi 6. Now we offer a solution for the harshest operating conditions.

The key feature of WOP-3L-EX is its explosion-proof design with 1Ex db IIC T5 Gb marking, which meets the requirements for use in areas where explosive vapors and gases are constantly present. The device is designed to operate in the most critical scenarios — for example, with the presence of hydrogen or acetylene.

The sealed, fire-resistant enclosure is made of aluminum alloy with an anti-corrosion coating. The ingress protection is IP66. The access point can withstand temperatures from -45 to +60°C.

The access point operates according to the Wi-Fi 6 standard; two bands are available:

• 2.4 GHz (up to 300 Mbps)
• 5 GHz (up to 1201 Mbps)
   

WOP-3L-EX is an industrial Wi-Fi access point with MU-MIMO technology support. It is designed for simultaneous connection of up to 40 clients.

For corporate security, WOP-3L-EX uses modern authentication and encryption mechanisms, including WPA3, Captive Portal, and centralized authorization via a RADIUS server.

Access point fleet management can be provided using Eltex controllers –WLC-15, WLC-30, WLC-3200 hardware models and vWLC software solution. Controllers enable monitoring of access points status, mass firmware updates, and the infrastructure scaling.

The access point is powered using Passive PoE technology (24 V), which reduces the requirements for cabling and simplifies installation even in hard-to-reach places. Power consumption is no more than 8.5 W, which is especially important at sites with limited energy resources.
