New xPON station terminals LTX-8C, LTX-16C with Combo ports

30 June 2025

New xPON station terminals

Two new devices LTX-8C and LTX-16C are now presented in our line of station optical terminals. They are designed to meet the needs of telecom operators who are developing last-mile optical networks and aimed to provide subscribers with fast access to the Internet, TV and services at speeds of up to 10 Gbps.

Two in one

The key feature of the new products is combo ports with support for simultaneous operation over one fiber using XGS-PON and GPON technologies. LTX-8C has 8 such ports, LTX-16C has 16. The older model with an increased number of combo ports is a rare solution for the market, relevant for nodes with a high density of connected subscribers.

Subscriber connection speed:

  • GPON – transmission up to 2.5 Gbps, reception up to 1.25 Gbps;
  • XGS-PON – symmetric reception/transmission up to 10 Gbps.

Up to 128 subscribers can be connected to one physical port using GPON technology and up to 256 subscribers using XGS-PON. Thus, one device LTX-8C can connect up to 1024 subscribers using the first technology and 2048 using the second. The number of subscribers for LTX-16C are up to 2048 and 4096 respectively.

With combo ports there is no need to use additional adders to connect GPON subscribers in the XGS-PON network. This is especially important when both technologies are in demand. GPON and XGS-PON subscribers can be connected to each combo port simultaneously, thus optimally utilizing the network infrastructure.

Versatility of solutions simplifies migration of GPON subscriber base to the new technology. Operators can migrate subscribers to XGS-PON as they become interested in new services. There is no need to lay a new optical line in parallel, the existing passive infrastructure remains in operation.

Connection is possible at a distance of up to 20 km from OLT to ONT without the use of active equipment at the point of distribution to subscribers.

Performance and fault tolerance

LTX-8C and LTX-16C have a good performance margin: the switching matrix of the devices is 300 Gbps, which allows the terminals to work stable even under high loads and peak traffic.

Four uplink ports are provided for connection to the operator's core network: two ports for each 100/40 Gbps and 25/10/1 Gbps. This configuration gives flexibility in designing the network architecture and allows efficient traffic distribution between subscribers.

For power redundancy, each device has two hot-swappable AC/DC power supplies with automatic switchover to the backup power supply.

Management convenience

Ease integration and management are always kept in focus during development. The new terminals are no exception. They are equipped with a console port for local management and an OOB port which is a dedicated management channel available in case of superior equipment failure. Configuration and management is accomplished through the web interface, CLI and SNMP.

The LTX-8C and LTX-16C are in mass production and available for testing and ordering. For more information contact us at: foreign.sales@eltex-co.ru
