Serial production of PoE access switch MES2448P

13 January 2023 MES2448Р is a new 48 port model in current line of PoE access switch-es. It has all the necessary functions to connect end devices, manage traffic and ensure security in corporate network. New device has already passed all the necessary tests and has been launched into mass production.

Compared to proven 48 port model MES2348P from previous line, the new switch will be more affordable due to reduced PoE budget. At the same time, MES2448P can provide comparable performance at switching and rout-ing.

Main features
MES2448P is equipped with 48 gigabit copper ports for end devices connection and 4 optical uplink ports of 10 gigabit. Total bandwidth is 176 Gbps, throughput for 64 bytes – 130.9 MPPS
PoE budget is 720 W. Due to PoE+ support, devices that consume up to 30 W can be connected to the switch. It can be video surveillance systems, ex-ternal and internal Wi-Fi access points, IP phones and other equipment.

For communication lines tests there are options of Virtual Cable Test (VCT) and Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) for optical transceiver.
MES2448P is equipped with two replaceable AC power modules of 176–264 V and active cooling system with 4 fans.

Security functions
MES2448P is a reliable solution that has all the necessary functions for enhanced security of the corporate network access segment. Use of IPv4 and IPv6 (L2–L4 ACL) access management list will exclude unreliable connections, and the built-in mechanisms will reliably protect from:
  • ARP, BPDU, DOS attacks;
  • attacks via DHCP (DHCP Snooping);
  • IP addresses spoofing (IP Source Guard);
  • loops occurrence (STP, RSTP, MSTP, ERPS, LBD);
  • different types of storm (unicast, multicast, broadcast).
To control end users’ access, RADIUS client is used, and TACACS+ cli-ent is used for administration and authorization of entered commands.

VLAN and routing functions
MES2448P has basic routing features. To provide network fault toler-ance and load balancing in MES2448P, VRRP protocol is used, the purpose of which is to combine several network switches into one virtual. IPv4 based hardware static routing is also supported. Intensive work on supporting dy-namic routing protocols (RIP, OSPF) is in progress. They will be available in future firmware versions.
The switch has all the necessary functions to create virtual networks and manage traffic within those networks:
  • IEEE 802.1Q;
  • Q-in-Q and Selective Q-in-Q;
  • GVRP;
  • VLAN based on MAC and protocols.
Operation with Multicast and QoS
There are all the necessary functions for operation with multicast traffic in MES2448P:
  • IGMP Snooping v. 1, 2, 3;
  • IGMP Snooping Fast Leave;
  • MVR – multicast transmission between different VLANs;
  • MLD Snooping v. 1, 2;
  • Support for Multicast profiles and groups.
The switch supports 8 QoS egress queues for each port. This is neces-sary for optimal distribution of traffic with high priority, such as video data from online cameras or IPTV.

Management, configuration and update
MES2448P management and update can be performed using SNMP, CLI (Telnet, SSH, Console) and web interface. With TFTP/SFTP, configuration can be backed up, uploaded and downloaded.
